The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that 1,471 people died in road accidents in the first quarter of 2024.

According to the NBS report, the Federal Capital Territory, Ogun, Kaduna, Nasarawa and Oyo states recorded the highest frequency of road accidents.

In its just-released report titled “Road Transport Data Q1, 2024” the total number of road crashes in the first quarter of 2024 was 2,662, indicating a decrease of 2.02 per cent from the fourth quarter which recorded 2,717 cases.

On a year-on-year basis, the cases dropped by 3.00 per cent from the 2,733 reported in the first three months of 2023.
