The Delta State Football Association (DFA) has finalised plans, in partnership with FPG Technologies & Solutions Ltd, to train more than 40 coaches across the state in certification courses organised by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) by May 2026.
The initiative was unveiled in Asaba by DFA Chairman, Chief Godwin Adode, during an award presentation ceremony held in honour of the Chief Executive Officer of FPG Technologies & Solutions Ltd, Engineer Rex Ugochukwu Mafiana.
Adode described the programme as a “transformational pathway” for football development in the state, stressing that it would significantly enhance the technical capacity of local coaches in line with modern coaching standards and global best practice.
“This partnership is a deliberate step towards building capacity and ensuring that our coaches are not left behind in the evolving dynamics of the game,” he said. “CAF certification is not merely a badge of honour; it equips coaches with the tactical intelligence, discipline and contemporary methodologies required to develop players effectively.”
He added that the initiative would have a far-reaching impact across the football ecosystem in Delta State, improving player development, team organisation and overall competitiveness at both grassroots and elite levels.
The DFA chairman also paid tribute to Engineer Mafiana, describing him as “a pillar of grassroots football development and a committed advocate of youth empowerment through sport”. He commended the FPG chief for his sustained investment in football initiatives, consistent support for local talent and his vision of leveraging technology and structured development programmes to drive sporting excellence.
“Engineer Mafiana has demonstrated uncommon passion and dedication. His contributions go beyond sponsorship; he continues to champion initiatives that nurture young talents, empower coaches and strengthen the foundations of football in Delta State. This recognition is richly deserved,” Adode said.
In his response, Mafiana expressed gratitude to the DFA for the honour and reaffirmed his organisation’s commitment to football development in the state.
“I am truly honoured by this recognition. For us at FPG Technologies & Solutions Ltd, this partnership goes beyond football — it is about investing in people. When you develop coaches, you are indirectly shaping the future of countless young players,” he said.
He noted that the CAF certification programme would expose local coaches to modern techniques, broaden their tactical understanding and enhance their decision-making abilities.
“This training will elevate the level of knowledge, exposure and professionalism among our coaches. It will bridge the knowledge gap and empower them to compete favourably, not only within Nigeria but across the continent. We are proud to collaborate with the DFA on this impactful initiative,” he added.
The forthcoming training programme is expected to attract participants from across the state, marking a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to strengthen the technical foundation of football in Delta State.
