Rangers International striker Godwin Obaje has set his sights on a remarkable double this season, declaring his ambition to win both the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title and the league’s top scorer’s award.

The 30-year-old forward is firmly in contention for the Golden Boot, having scored 11 goals so far this campaign. His tally is matched by Joseph Arumala of Ikorodu City and Emeka Obioma of Abia Warriors, setting up a tightly contested race for the individual honour.

Speaking about his ambitions, Obaje made it clear that while the Golden Boot remains within reach, his primary focus is on securing the league title with Rangers, also known as the Flying Antelopes.

“I believe I can win the highest goalscorer award — I am confident about that,” he said. “But my main target is to see my team win the title at the end of the season. We have many young players who now have the chance to win their first major trophy, and that would be life-changing for them. I will be very happy to see Rangers lift the trophy.”

Reflecting on his longevity in the Nigerian top flight, Obaje attributed his consistency to faith, discipline and hard work. The former Plateau United and Wikki Tourists striker has made over 260 NPFL appearances, scoring 96 goals in the process.

“I think what keeps me going is God, prayers, hard work and self-discipline,” he explained. “Discipline is very important in everything I do.”

On his goals target for the remainder of the campaign, Obaje opted to keep expectations open-ended, insisting his priority is simply to contribute as much as possible to his team’s success.

“My target is to score as many goals as possible to help my team,” he added.

An admirer of Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimović, Obaje has netted 11 times in 28 league appearances this season and remains a central figure in Rangers’ push for domestic glory.
