Following the exit of Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran ll, who recently joined his ancestors, was a stakeholder in Ijesa matters and a prince of the Bilagbayo ruling house, Omo-Oba Femi Omoniyi has urged kingmakers in Ijesaland (Agba Ijesaland) to embrace equity and justice in the selection of a new royal father.
Omoniyi stated this in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday. He also appealed to the kingmakers to shun any individual, group or ruling house attempt to bribe or intimidate them in the selection process for the new Owa Obokun of Ijesaland in Osun State.
Omoniyi further called for a speedy process that will witness the emergence of a successor and avoid a situation where the stool will be she was left vacant for an extended period.
He also cautioned some princes of the Bilaro ruling house to desist from further engagement in political campaigns for the coveted throne of the town.
He further counselled those who, despite their family having produced the last two Owa consecutively in a ruling house of over nine families, still want to vie for the stool to have a rethink.
Omoniyi further implored them to think of equity and fairness in the overall interest of Ijesaland first above personal interest and primordial sentiments .
On the need to abide by the wise counsel of Ifa (Yoruba divination that knows everything). Omoniyi said, “Ifa deity, the all-wise and knowing Orunmila is known for fairness, equity, and justice should know better than to allow a single family to dominate a whole ruling house, except, of course, in a situation where Ifa is ‘dollarized’ and compromised
“Ijesaland is an epitome of integrity and hard work, and any attempt to pick the wrong person to ascend the throne of Owa Obokun will further polarise the entire Ijesaland and deal a devastating blow to the peace and tranquillity currently being enjoyed by all and sundry across the board.
He added that social evils like gangsterism, money rituals,
prostitution and other such vices that have affected Ijesaland, which are being tackled by well-meaning Ijesas at home and abroad, must not be truncated.
The statement reads in part, “Ijesas are an epitome of integrity and hard work, but today, it is gangsterism and money rituals. Prostitution and other such vices have dominated Ijesa land, and these must be nipped in the bud.
“If the wrong person is picked, these will not just continue, but increase in geometrical proportions”.
