The paramount ruler of the Tiv nation, His Royal Majesty Orcivirigh Prof James Ayatse has condoled with the Catholic Bishop of Ondo Diocese, entire Catholic community, families and people of Ondo State over the attack on worshippers of St Francis Catholic Church, Owo, by unknown gunmen.

The Tor Tiv who is also the national president and chairman, Board of Trustees of Association of Christian Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, condemned the dastardly act and urged the security agencies to fish out the perpetrators and bring them to book.

In another development, the Benue State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called for immediate resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari and his service chiefs for not being able to contain the security challenges confronting the country.

Rev. Leva, who condemned the terrorists attack said for the past seven years the killing of Christians in the country had degenerated from bad to worse even as they took oath to protect the lives and property of the citizenry.

The CAN chairman who stated this in a statement by his chief press secretary, Sam Tyav, lamented that the intractable killings in the country were a clear demonstration that the country was tilting towards anarchy.

He said, “Nigerian leaders beginning with the President have lost focus and are no longer in firm grip of the glaring challenges of the country, particularly the security challenges. The attacks and killings in recent times have exposed how incapable the Nigerian leaders are.

“I want to call on President Muhammadu Buhari not to wait for May 29, 2023 to hand over to another Nigerian but to resign together with his service chiefs with immediate alacrity since they have not been able to handle the security situation of the country which has degenerated from bad to worse even as they took oath to protect the lives and property of the people.”

The cleric noted that the continued killings of Nigerians in whatever guise with only mere political statements from the Presidency would no longer be tolerated as Nigerians want actions from their leaders and anything short of that would prove the inability of the President which the best option, he insisted, was for him to resign for another person to take over.

He described the killing of the worshippers as barbaric and satanic and attributed it to the handiwork of the enemies of the nation.

Leva who prayed to God to console families of the victims, the Christian community in Ondo State and the entire Nigerian Christians, also called on the security operatives to fish out the attackers of the church and bring them to justice to serve as a deterrent to others.
