The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved the 2025 budgets for the 33 local government areas in the state.
The approval on Tuesday followed the presentation of report of the House Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and State Honours by its chairman, Hon Akintunde Olatunde Emmanuel (Lagelu).
The budget was aimed at streamlining expenditures of all the 33 local government areas of Oyo State for probity and accountability to enable them deliver on their mandates.
The committee urged all local government councils to adhere to the approved capital expenditures to ensure compliance with the Constitution and Local Governments Law.
Part of the recommendations of the Committee is for the Oyo State House of Assembly and the Association of Local Government in Nigeria (ALGON) to organise a workshop on budgeting and budgetary control for local government chairmen and management staff to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin said the approval of the local governments’ budget was a significant step towards promoting transparency and accountability in governance.
“As the chairman, Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, this is the narrative we are pushing across the country in preparation for the proposed financial autonomy for local giovernment in Nigeria”, he said.
