The Oyo State House of Assembly on Thursday approved Governor Seyi Makinde’s request to proceed on his annual leave, paving the way for Deputy Governor Adebayo Lawal to oversee the affairs of the state during the period.
The governor, in a letter to the Assembly, said his leave would commence on August 10 and end on September 11, 2026, with official duties expected to resume on September 14, 2026.
The request was considered during plenary in line with Section 190 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which requires a governor to formally notify the State House of Assembly before proceeding on vacation or being absent from office.
The letter was read by the Deputy Speaker, Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided over the sitting in the absence of Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin.
After deliberating on the request, the lawmakers unanimously granted approval and reaffirmed their confidence in Deputy Governor Lawal’s capacity to provide effective leadership and ensure the uninterrupted running of government throughout the governor’s vacation.
