Oyo Labour Seeks Prompt Implementation Of New Minimum Wage

Labour leaders in Oyo State have stressed the need for quick implementation of the new national minimum wage approved by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ease the hardship being faced by workers in the country.

The chairman, state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC) ,Mr Kayode Martins who stated this said though the new minimum wage approved by the president was a welcome development but delay in its implementation might prolong the suffering of Nigerian workers.

While imploring governors in the country to emulate the gesture of the federal government, Martins stressed the need for the governors to expedite action on their quick implementation.

Corroborating Martins,  Trade Union Congress (TUC )chairman, Mr. Bosun Olabiyi said the three years reviewing system approved by the federal government was commendable and advised the federal government to be quick in the implementation.

He also appreciated all the stakeholders that were involved in the agitation for the spirit of sportsmanship.

Meanwhile, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has vowed to pay the new minimum wage of N70,000 as approved by the federal government.

The governor’s special adviser (Media), Sulaiman Olanrewaju, said on Friday that the state government would implement the new minimum wage for the state workers.

He recalled that the governor had promised to pay whatever the federal government agreed to pay as minimum wage.
