The Founder and Chairperson of Hadiza Aliyu’s Foundation (HAF), Hadiza Aliyu Muhammed, has strongly condemned the abduction of 46 schoolchildren and their teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, urging the Federal Government to take immediate action to secure their safe release.
In a statement issued yesterday in Abuja, Hadiza Aliyu Muhammed expressed deep concern over the tragic incident, describing it as yet another devastating attack on the safety, dignity, and future of children and educators in Nigeria.
Hadiza Aliyu’s Foundation (HAF), a women-led non-governmental organisation committed to promoting the rights and welfare of women, children, and persons with disabilities (PWDs), described the incident as unacceptable and called for urgent national action to address the persistent insecurity affecting learning environments across the country.
“We call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to immediately intensify efforts toward the safe and swift rescue of the abducted children and their teachers. The protection of every child remains a fundamental responsibility of the state, and urgent action is required to ensure their safe return,” the Foundation stated.
The Foundation also noted with grave concern the reported killing of a teacher during the attack, describing it as a painful reminder of the escalating risks faced by educators and students in vulnerable communities.
HAF further urged security agencies, state authorities, traditional institutions, civil society organisations, and community leaders to strengthen coordinated measures to safeguard schools and prevent future attacks. According to the Foundation, schools must remain safe spaces for learning, growth, and development, free from fear and violence.
“The abduction of schoolchildren is not only a security concern but a national emergency that threatens education and the future of countless young lives. Immediate and sustained action is required to prevent further occurrences and restore public confidence in the safety of learning institutions,” the statement added.
The Foundation expressed solidarity with the affected families and communities and joined other concerned Nigerians in demanding the safe and unconditional release of all abducted children and their teachers.
