The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Giwa Sodiq, in connection with a violent altercation that resulted in the death of a man identified as Kehinde, popularly known as “Ogo Ojigbo,” in Asalu Community, Lalupon, in Lagelu Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s public relations officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Ibadan, the state capital.

According to him, the corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital Morgue, Ring Road, Ibadan, for preservation and autopsy.

Ayanlade explained that preliminary investigations showed that community leaders had reported the incident to the Iyana-Offa Police Division after being alerted by local security guards about a confrontation involving a group of youths in the community while residents were asleep.

“The injured individuals were immediately rushed to Ojo Oluwa Hospital, Iyana-Offa, for medical attention, where one of the victims, identified as Kehinde, also known as ‘Ogo Ojigbo,’ later succumbed to his injuries,” he said.

He added that upon receiving the report, a team of police operatives led by the divisional police officer of Iyana-Offa division swiftly moved to the scene and the hospital, where photographs were taken for documentation.

One suspect, Giwa Sodiq, was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident.

Ayanlade noted that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects who fled the scene to ensure they face prosecution.

“The corpse of the deceased has been deposited at Adeoyo State Hospital Morgue, Ring Road, Ibadan, for preservation and autopsy. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects to ensure full prosecution,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the commissioner of police in the state, Femi Haruna, commended the swift response of the officers involved and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report criminal activities.

He also appealed to members of the public with credible information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects to come forward and assist the police.

The command further called on residents to continue cooperating with security agencies to ensure communities remain safe and secure
