Pan African group, the United Peoples of Africa, has marked the annual Africa Day with the staging of music and poetic performances.

The performance featured veteran musician, Duro Ikujenyo and his seven-man band Age of Aquarius, octogenarian musician, Prince Eji Oyewole, Seun Olota amongst others whose songs drew viewers to reflect on Africa Day 2024 theme – “Africa Integration Towards Removal of Tribalism, Poverty and Illiteracy” which borders on the challenges against Africa’s unity.

Celebrated every May 25, to commemorate the creation of African Unity (AU) in 1963, Africa Day is an opportunity to celebrate African diversity and success, as well as highlight the cultural and economic potentials that exist in the continent.

Speaking at the occasion,  Ikujenyo who presented his fifth album same day, said the day calls Africans to reminisce on the continent’s contribution to world civilization, in particular past heroes who fought and survived 500 years of slavery, and sixty years of European and the Americas colonisation.

“This day gives us hope, and the sustained belief that Africa will be totally united and emancipated, and progress to become a leading force in the world, economically and politically.”
