The critical role of Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTC) in involving parents in their children’s educational journey has been stressed.

In a demonstration of parental commitment to their children’s growth, the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB) schools, operating under the KwaraLEARN program, recently hosted the Term 3 (2022/2023 Academic Year) Parent-Teacher Conference on July 28, 2023. This event, covering 10 local government areas, witnessed an attendance of 25,494 parents and guardians, underscoring the increasing significance of these conferences in fostering collaborative educational approaches.

KwaraLEARN stands as Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s flagship educational initiative aimed at revolutionizing learning outcomes for public school children in the state. It provides a comprehensive and quality education, empowering students to excel academically and personally. KwaraLEARN’s mission involves transforming government primary schools into formidable institutions through innovative technology, data-driven platforms, top-tier learning materials, effective training, and continuous guidance for teachers and school leaders.

In the previous Term 2, the Parent-Teacher Conference gathered an impressive crowd of over 20,000 parents and guardians, establishing a positive precedent for parental involvement. However, the most recent Term 3 conference witnessed an even larger turnout, with more than 25,000 parents participating actively.

During the conference, KwaraLEARN teachers went beyond evaluating academic scores, offering parents an all-encompassing overview of their child’s academic progress and overall development. In these insightful sessions, educators discussed not just academic achievements but also delved into each student’s strengths, areas of improvement, behavior, and social skills. This holistic approach empowered parents to grasp their child’s learning journey deeply, aiding them in recognizing areas where additional support might be beneficial and reinforcing the importance of a well-rounded education.

One content parent, Mrs. Fatima Adebayo, expressed her satisfaction with the comprehensive approach of the conference, saying, “The PTC opened my eyes. I now understand my child’s strengths and areas for improvement better, and I feel equipped to support her more effectively in her studies and personal growth. It’s reassuring to know that the school and teachers genuinely care about my daughter’s progress.”
