Party Alleges Irregularities In Registration

The African Alliance Party (AAP) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of acting unlawfully by undermining democratic principles following the commission’s decision to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) instead of the AAP.

In a press release issued yesterday by its national secretariat in Abuja signed by the national publicity secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, the party expressed shock over INEC’s refusal to register it despite its full compliance with all stipulated requirements for political party registration.

The party said it conducted an independent investigation into INEC’s claim that it registered the NDC based on a court judgment obtained at the Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State. According to the AAP, its findings revealed that there is no Certified True Copy (CTC) of the purported judgment which INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan (SAN), allegedly relied upon in announcing the NDC’s registration on February 5, 2026, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

AAP described the development as “judicial abracadabra” and alleged that the NDC was not among the political associations that had applied for registration, as reflected in INEC’s official social media platforms and press statements as of the date the registration was announced.
