The Yobe State Security Council, chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni, has praised the people of the state for conducting themselves peacefully during the party primaries conducted so far.
In an interaction with journalists after the meeting, the state commissioner of police, Usman Kamfani Jibrin, said the council advised any person or group who felt aggrieved to seek redress lawfully and through constituted authorities.
He said security agencies were fully alert and that anyone attempting to disrupt the peace of the state would be dealt with decisively, adding that any individual or group involved in sponsoring or participating in political banditry or thuggery would face the full wrath of the law.
The CP said security agents had uncovered plans by some politicians to import thugs into the state to cause confusion, stressing that the command was working on identifying the sponsors and anyone involved.
He also warned politicians against political rallies, pointing out that there was a timetable for every political activity and it was not yet time for such gatherings.
Similarly, members of the public were advised to keep a vigil and observe the movements of any strange person or persons in their communities.
The special adviser on Security Affairs to the Governor, Brig. Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), gave the piece of advice and remarked that criminals were fleeing military operations in the bush and looking for safe havens.
“The public should report the presence of suspicious persons and movements in and around their localities, and anyone found harbouring criminals would be apprehended and subjected to the laws,” he warned.
