A new digital solution is transforming how Nigerian undergraduates manage union dues, replacing cumbersome cash payments and opaque processes with streamlined and transparent transactions.
Paydue, a platform designed specifically for union and association management, was launched at the Federal University, Lokoja.
Its founders, Joseph Owolabi, Ogunleye Dimeji, and Abayomi Adewole, designed the tool to address the payment frustrations students experience.
At the event, Joseph Owolabi, the co-founder of Paydue Technologies, said, “For years, paying faculty, departmental, or student union dues meant chasing down cash handlers and waiting for paper receipts.
We built Paydue to end that inefficiency, not just for student unions, but for all organisations relying on member dues.”
The platform allows students to pay dues instantly via smartphone, receiving electronic receipts immediately. Union leaders gain real-time oversight through a centralised dashboard, replacing manual tracking and cash handling that often led to financial discrepancies and a lack of trust.
“Cash transactions and poor record-keeping have historically weakened accountability,” explained co-founder Abayomi Gbenga Adewole. “Paydue provides a transparent framework. It reduces financial leakages and empowers unions to operate with greater responsibility and accuracy.
While initially focused on tertiary institutions, Paydue’s application extends to trade unions, staff associations, and community groups—organisations that collectively manage billions of Naira annually.
Student feedback has been positive. Adekemi Lawal, speaking on behalf of peers, praised the platform’s reliability. “Paydue has simplified campus transactions significantly,” she said. “It’s a welcome change from the restrictive and cumbersome systems we used before.”
By digitising dues collection, Paydue aims to shift student focus away from bureaucratic financial processes and back toward academic and organisational engagement, marking a significant step toward modernised financial operations on campuses nationwide.
