The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), has celebrated its 42nd anniversary with a renewed commitment to strengthening community policing, national security collaboration, and public trust across Nigeria, honouring nine police officers for their distinguished service.
The anniversary event, held in Abuja, brought together senior police officers, government officials, PCRC executives, stakeholders, and members from across the country to reflect on the organisation’s legacy and future vision.
Speaking on behalf of the inspector-general of police, IGP Olatunji Disu, the deputy inspector-general of police in charge of Logistics and Supply, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, described the PCRC as one of the most enduring pillars of community-oriented policing in Nigeria
According to him, the theme of the celebration, “42 Years of PCRC: A Legacy of Service, A Future of Safe Communities,” reflects the organisation’s long-standing commitment to partnership, trust, and shared responsibility in ensuring safer communities nationwide.
He noted that over the past four decades, the PCRC has consistently demonstrated that security is a collective responsibility requiring cooperation between citizens and law enforcement agencies.
“The legacy of the PCRC is visible in every state, every division, and every community where it has stood as the voice of partnership and a beacon of cooperation,” he said.
Earlier in his welcome address, the national chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee, Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan described the anniversary as a milestone celebrating resilience, unity, and dedication to fostering cordial relationships between the police and communities.
Olaniyan traced the history of the organisation to its founding 42 years ago by the late Etim Inyang, noting that the PCRC had grown from a modest initiative into a respected national institution promoting peace, cooperation, and public safety.
Highlighting achievements recorded under his leadership, Olaniyan disclosed that the PCRC has successfully reclaimed its national secretariat and secured the commencement of a new national headquarters project approved by the Ministry of Police Affairs and the Nigeria Police Force.
He said the proposed secretariat would provide a befitting office complex for the organisation, offer subsidised accommodation for members, and improve revenue generation through planned residential apartments.
