A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) group has faulted the alleged adoption of an aspirant as the party’s consensus flag bearer ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Nasarawa State.

The group known as “Concerned Stakeholders” of the PDP, described the alleged adoption as undemocratic and unreflective of the will of the majority of party members in the state.

It made its position known at a press briefing addressed by the leader, Jibrin Ibrahim, yesterday in Lafia, the state capital.

The group said it rejected the action in totality, noting that it was a charade orchestrated to mislead the public.

It noted that PDP was founded on the ideals of democracy, inclusiveness, and fairness, pointing out that the processes leading to the emergence of candidates must be transparent, credible, and in accordance with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.

It said the supposed adoption lacked legitimacy, credibility, and the backing of the party organs on wider stakeholders.

“It has come to our attention that a few self-serving individuals, claiming to speak on behalf of the PDP in Nasarawa State, met at Francis Orogu’s house in Lafia on 10th July, 2025 and have purportedly adopted a particular aspirant as the party’s consensus candidate ahead of the forthcoming primaries.

“Let it be categorically stated here and now that this so-called adoption is false, undemocratic, and does not reflect the will of the majority of party members across the state,” it stated.

It called on the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party to disregard any of such a move, and to reaffirm its commitment to providing a level-playing field for all aspirants to test their popularity.

It equally urged the State Working Committee to sanction Mr. Orogu, former chairman of the party in the state and other party officials who were alleged to have been promoting certain aspirant to the detriment of others in the purported action, adding that it was against the Constitution of the Party.

“We urge all aspirants to continue their consultations and engagements with party members in peace and mutual respect, while preparing for the primary election in line with the party’s guidelines,”

“Let it be known that the PDP in Nasarawa State remains united, and no individual or group has the authority to hijack the collective will of our members. The 2027 elections are crucial, and we must not allow internal sabotage or desperate schemes to derail our progress,” it said.

When contacted, the former chairman, Orogu confirmed the adoption of an aspirant for the governorship race in 2027.

He said the party’s stakeholders unanimously adopted David Ombugadu, the party’s candidate in the last governorship election in the state as the standard bearer, adding that the action followed democratic process.
