The caucus leader of the House of Representatives for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Fred Agbedi, has reaffirmed the commitment of remaining party lawmakers despite a decline in their numbers at the National Assembly.
Speaking at the party’s 103rd NEC meeting, Agbedi acknowledged the dwindling presence of PDP lawmakers but stressed that those who remain are resolute in their support for the party.
“In the National Assembly there has been a lot of happenings. Our numbers are waning, our numbers are reducing, but I can tell you that in the House of Reps, there are still about 30 people left. Those of us left are holding on,” he said.
He assured party leadership that PDP lawmakers are standing firm and are prepared to follow the party’s direction in navigating its current challenges.
“We are relying on our party. We are waiting with the party and we are at arms in the field with the party. Whatever the party decides… we are ready to go with you,” he added.
Agbedi encouraged party members to remain resilient, noting that political success requires persistence even in difficult times. Drawing a comparison, he referenced the rise of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who he said started with limited political control before ascending to national leadership.
“I can tell you that the president who is a president today had only Lagos at the time and he kept pushing on… we can do it again,” he stated.
The lawmaker also launched a strong critique of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of failing Nigerians and misusing public resources.
“This government has failed Nigeria. One reason why I will never go to APC is because I must stand on the side of Nigerians,” he said.
Agbedi further alleged attempts to induce defections through financial incentives, warning party members against being swayed.
“They are using public money to buy us and we shouldn’t allow that to happen,” he cautioned.
Reiterating his personal stance, he declared that his loyalty to Nigeria outweighs political ambition or personal gain.
“I don’t care whether I have a platform to contest election or not… Nigeria’s survival is more important,” he said.
He concluded by calling on PDP members to unite and mobilize against the APC ahead of future political contests.
“PDP, arise so that we can take this battle to their doorsteps and defeat the APC that has completely failed and ruined Nigeria.”
End.
