National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the postponement of the South-South Zonal Congress earlier scheduled for today.
The national publicity secretary of the party, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, however said the South East and North East Zonal congresses would hold today as scheduled at the party’s zonal headquarters in Enugu and Bauchi states respectively.
The postponement followed a friction arising from renewed internal wrangle among party chieftains in the zone.
Ologunagba said the postponement was necessitated by further consultations on critical issues relating to the smooth conduct of the congress in the zone, and a new date would soon be communicated.
Meanwhile, a Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has issued an interim order restraining the party and its national vice chairman, South-South, Chief Dan Orbih, from conducting the congress scheduled to hold in Calabar today.
Two PDP members in Rivers State, Hon. Tony Ejiogu and Hon. Fred Nkor, had approached the court seeking an order stopping the party and its officials from going ahead with the zonal congress.
The presiding judge, Justice Godwin Obomanu, ruled in favour of the claimants, following submissions by their counsel, Emeka Ojoko.
The court ordered the defendants, along with their agents and representatives, to halt any preparations for the congress until the hearing and determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction.
The order also mandated all parties involved to maintain the status quo as of February 20, 2025, pending further court proceedings.
Additionally, the court granted the claimants permission to serve legal documents on the PDP and Orbih through substituted means, including posting notices at the South-South zonal headquarters in Port Harcourt and publishing the notice in a widely read national newspaper.
The case was been adjourned to February 28, 2025, for a hearing on the Motion on Notice.
