The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won all the 33 local government areas in Oyo State in last Saturday’s council election with the closest contender being the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The results of the 2024 council election were announced at the Conference Hall of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, (OYSEIC), Agodi, Ibadan.

OYSIEC chairman, Aare Isiaka Olagunju, affirmed the declaration of the PDP’s victory after the results were presented and announced by the returning officers.

The OYSIEC boss appreciated the efforts of the electoral officers as well as other stakeholders and security agencies who worked in harmony for the success of the elections.
Olagunju who acknowledged the fact that there are areas of improvement to be worked on, said the detailed report of the election would be presented to the state government.

While commenting on the party’s victory, the commissioner for information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said the performance of Governor Seyi Makinde in the last five years was the major reason why the election turned out to be one-sided.

The commissioner also attributed the election result to the quality of the candidates which the ruling party fielded.

“This is a glowing tribute to the governor and his government as this is the last election under his watch till 2027 when he and the just elected LG chairmen and councilors will end their tenures.”

The commissioner observed that surprisingly the opposition party started rehearsing their complaints barely 30 minutes before the commencement of the elections yesterday morning.
