To promote peace and security in Katsina State, 190 women from four local government areas have been empowered through the Women Peace and Security (WPS) initiative.

The two-day event, organised by Mercy Corps in collaboration with the Katsina State government, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD), aimed to discuss the role of women in peacebuilding, identify challenges and opportunities, and develop collaborative strategies for promoting peace and security.

The participants, drawn from Batsari, Jibiya, Katsina, and Kankara local government areas, were urged to build confidence and express themselves in their various communities.

The senior programme officer of Mercy Corps, Lynda Nkechi Emmanuel, emphasized the importance of women’s participation in peacebuilding and encouraged them to take ownership of the initiative.

The state commissioner for women’s affairs, Hadiza Yar’adua, commended the participants for their enthusiasm and commitment to the program. She assured them that the state government would prioritize their needs and work towards creating a better living environment for women in the state.
