The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the constitution of caretaker committees for Enugu, Delta and Rivers states chapters.
The Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) said it formed the committees on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) pursuant to Section 29(2)(b) of our Constitution (2025 as amended).
The constitution of the caretaker committees for the states followed the defection of the governors in the states from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Delta’s Hon Sheriff Oborovweri, Enugu’s Peter Mbah and Rivers’ Siminalayi Fubara all defected to the APC this year.
Others who also defected to the APC this year are Akwa Ibom’s Umo Eno, Osun’s Ademola Adeleke, Taraba’s Kefas Kigbu, Bayelsa’s Senator Douye Diri.
According to a statement from the PDP national organising secretary, Theophilus Dakas Shan, the caretaker committee for Enugu State will be chaired by Barr. Steve Oruruo, Ugwu Uchenna Godswill; Lilian C. C. Ugwuoke; Anikezie Michael; Cosmas Chinwe Ugwu; Barr. Basil Aguigwo; Chief Cosmas Onyia; Barr. Peter Ajah; Martin Ugwuamadie, (Secretary)
For Delta State, the caretaker committee is chaired Prof. Sylvester Monye; Ujor Ucheonny; Pharm. Victor Ofobrukueta; Comdr. Johnbull Aghogho Kenairu; Jackson Agbor; Onajega Mike; Chief Ekiyor Charles; Hon. Mrs. Vero Egbuna; Chukwunonso Alex Ndah; Walter Uguoye; Dr Michael Tidi (secretary).
For Rivers State the committee will be chaired Dr. Nname Robinson Ewor; Mr. Alalibo Graham Braide; PRINCESS Isioma Stella Braide; Arc. Eldred Owupelu-Orubo; Austin Ema Wali; Mr. Ada Utong; Mr. Edward Nubari David; Dr. Paul Baribeful Nkor; Ogbam Ojimah (secretary).
He said the committees were charged with the responsibility of running the affairs of the party in their various states as stipulated in Section 21(2)(a-b) of our Party’s Constitution for a period not exceeding 90 days or till such a time a new executive shall be elected.
“In carrying out these assignments, the Committee are to be guided strictly by the PDP Constitution (2025, as amended), the Electoral Act, 2022 and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended,” he said in the statement.
