The Board of Peoples Media Limited, publishers of Peoples Daily newspapers, has appointed Alhaji Maharazu Ahmed as Managing Director, while Messrs Egena Sunday Ode and Lateef Folorunso Ibrahim have been named Editors of the Daily and Weekend titles respectively.

The appointments were announced in a statement issued by the company, which said the decision was part of efforts to reposition the organisation and its flagship publication to meet the expectations of stakeholders and the reading public.

According to the Board, Ahmed brings more than three decades of experience in journalism to the role. He rose through the ranks at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), where he eventually retired in 2024 as Deputy Editor-in-Chief.

Ahmed holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and History from Bayero University, Kano. He began his career as an Information Officer at the Government House in Katsina before moving to the Katsina State Ministry of Information and later to the state television station.

He subsequently joined the News Agency of Nigeria in 1993 as a Correspondent and built a career spanning several editorial and managerial roles before retiring.

During his time at NAN, Ahmed served as Correspondent in Borno State, District Correspondent in Gwagwalada and State House Correspondent. He also worked as Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor of Katsina State.

His career at the agency also saw him serve as North-West Zonal Manager, after which he moved to the NAN headquarters where he headed the Newsroom as well as the Defence and Security Desk.

Ahmed has travelled widely in the course of his professional duties, visiting countries such as Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Malaysia, Kenya, the United Arab Emirates, Israel, Germany, India and the Niger Republic.

He is a member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists and the Historical Society of Nigeria. Until his appointment, he was the General Manager of The Syndicate Communications Nigeria Limited, Kaduna.

Meanwhile, the newly appointed Editor of Peoples Daily, Ode, holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in English from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife and the University of Lagos respectively. He also earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism from the Times Journalism Institute, Lagos.

Ode has extensive experience in journalism, having previously worked with New Nigerian Newspapers, where he rose to the position of Political Editor. He also worked with Champion Newspapers and the Daily Times.

Before his current appointment, Ode served as Editor of Weekend Peoples Daily. He is a member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors and the International Press Institute.

Similarly, the new Weekend Editor, Ibrahim, studied Mass Communication at Ogun State Polytechnic, now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta. He later obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the National Open University of Nigeria.

He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State.

Before joining Peoples Media Limited in 2017, Ibrahim worked with several newspapers, including The Nation, Nigerian Compass, New Telegraph and Daily Times.

The Board expressed confidence that the new leadership would help reposition the company and strengthen the editorial direction of its publications.
