Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has praised Victor Osimhen following his decisive role in leading Galatasaray to the Turkish Süper Lig title. Osimhen delivered a standout performance in the title-clinching match, scoring twice to secure the championship for the Istanbul giants.

Reacting via his verified X account on Monday, Obi described the striker as a “proud ambassador of Nigeria on the global stage”, commending both his achievements and conduct.

He noted that Osimhen’s success reflects the immense untapped potential among Nigerian youths, stressing that many talented individuals are simply awaiting the right leadership, support, and enabling environment to thrive.

“Your resilience, discipline, and talent continue to inspire millions of young Nigerians to believe in the power of hard work, dedication, and excellence,” Obi wrote.

“You have remained a proud ambassador of Nigeria on the global stage, bringing honour to our nation through your achievements and conduct. Nigerians are immensely proud of you and your continued success.”

Obi also used the opportunity to highlight the importance of sports development, lamenting what he described as the sector’s persistent neglect.

“I have often spoken about the transformative power of sports and the immense opportunities it offers young people. This is why the continued neglect of the sector in our country is deeply regrettable,” he added. “I reiterate that a new Nigeria, where all sectors develop simultaneously for balanced growth and national well-being, is possible.”
