Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and running mate to the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed confidence that Peter Obi would emerge victorious in the 2027 presidential election.

Kwankwaso stated this on Friday during the affirmation of consensus aspirants of the party in Kano.

“I’m talking about Peter Obi, he will be flying our flag, and by the grace of God, on May 29, exactly one year from now, he will have been sworn in as the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

The former Kano State governor described the affirmation exercise as a historic moment for the party, saying the peaceful emergence of consensus candidates demonstrated unity among members in the state.

He commended party leaders, elders and supporters for ensuring a smooth process across the all constituencies in Kano.

Kwankwaso said several constituencies recorded over 10 aspirants, but stakeholders were able to agree on candidates through consensus.

At the event, former Kano deputy governor, Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo, was affirmed as the party’s governorship candidate, while Dr Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna emerged as the senatorial candidate for Kano Central.

Candidates for the House of Representatives, State House of Assembly and other senatorial districts were also affirmed.

Kwankwaso thanked members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, the CRC, Lafiya Jari groups and the New Nigeria Peoples Party for supporting the exercise.

Earlier, chairman of the party’s primaries committee, Mainasara Abubakar Sani, commended members for their cooperation during the process.

“We have received reports that the exercise was conducted successfully and peacefully. Kano members made our work easier,” he said.

Speaking after his affirmation, Gwarzo promised to operate an open-door policy if elected governor in 2027.

He also urged youths to remain committed to the movement and continue supporting the party ahead of the elections.
