Despite the strike directive by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASDAN), all filing stations opened for business in various parts of Enugu on Monday.

As of the time of filling this report, our correspondent also observed that no filling station increased the pump price.

Some owners of filling stations who spoke to our correspondent condemned the strike order, describing it as a sabotage to the nation’s economy.

A filing stations owner, who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation, said they were not happy over the Union’s incessant attack on Dangote Refinery.

“I don’t know why all these attacks against Dangote Refinery, honestly. They should allow competition because it will help to alleviate the sufferings of the masses and also make us to sell at affordable price and make our money.

“Why are they after Dangote who invested billions of dollars and today, we are practically seeing the positive effects of his investments as the pump price of fuel is now sold at below N1,000 in Enugu and other places.

“The Federal Government should call this so-called unionists to order. They should act when necessary and not to frustrate a man that invested heavily in this sector. If genuinely they are fighting for those allegedly sacked, there are other ways to sort it out and bring them back, not these incessant distractions,” he stated.

A resident at Obioma Street, Achra Layout, Mr Ndukwe Igbokwe urged the government to call the unions to order with a view to reducing the sufferings of the masses.

“These so-called unions do not have our interest at heart, all they want is to achieve their selfish interests. The refineries built by government have not been working over the years and what have they done? Since all these years, have they called government to order and the answer is no”.

Our investigation further revealed that transport fares have also stabilised while there was not scarcity of fuel and other petroleum products in the State.
