A philanthropist, Dr Martins Abhulimhen, has reacted to a viral video which linked him to a scammer who posed as Dubai’s Crown Prince in a plot to defraud a Romanian businesswoman.

In a statement signed by Dr. Martins Abhulimhen in Abuja yesterday, he said he was only a consultant providing professional services to clients.

He stated that he was not charged with any offence and was not involved in any broader arrangements beyond the advisory services which he rendered.

He said, “I consider it necessary to clarify issues arising from a viral news in which my name was mentioned. In 2023, during the coordination of a conference in Abuja, I interacted with various individuals and stakeholders in connection with the event. Subsequently, I was approached regarding a potential property investment in London. In my capacity as a consultant, I provided advisory services on a professional fee basis. The engagement was strictly limited to consultancy.

“In 2024, UK authorities contacted me regarding a routine review of a transaction linked to my account. I cooperated fully, attended an interview voluntarily, and provided all requested information. I was not charged with any offence and was not involved in any broader arrangements beyond the advisory services I rendered.

“I have always acted in good faith, conducted my affairs under my legal identity, and complied with the law. My professional and humanitarian work continues to be guided by integrity and service”.

A photograph taken by the victim’s friend in London was shared with British police, who recognised the “financial manager” as Dr. Martins Abhulimhen.
