A philanthropist, Dr Christopher Ndubuisi, popularly known as “Ikenga Umuawulu,” has pledged to instal a solar power system at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), while also donating N20,000 each to patients admitted at the facility.

The gesture came during a courtesy visit to the hospital’s newly appointed chief medical director, Maureen Umeakuewulu, according to a statement issued by the hospital management.

Ndubuisi said the solar power project would improve electricity supply in the hospital wards, enhance patient care and ensure uninterrupted medical services.

“This is a critical intervention aimed at ensuring steady electricity, improving patient care conditions, enhancing operational efficiency and supporting uninterrupted medical services,” he said.

The philanthropist also distributed N20,000 to each inpatient at the hospital, a gesture that was appreciated by the beneficiaries and their families.

Ndubuisi congratulated Umeakuewulu on her appointment, describing her as a seasoned consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist with proven leadership capacity in the health sector.

He also commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for what he described as a merit-based appointment, expressing confidence in the new CMD’s ability to reposition the hospital.

He urged stakeholders to support efforts to transform the institution into a world-class healthcare facility, stressing that “Excellence is a collective responsibility.”
