For the first time since the 2023 general election, Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and his predecessor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who is the immediate-past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), came face-to-face and exchanged pleasantries at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano, on Tuesday.
The unexpected meeting has drawn significant attention from observers as both political figures have not been seen together in public since the transition of power.
Both men arrived the facility separately but happened to meet at the airport lounge unexpectedly. They exchanged brief pleasantries before proceeding to their respective destinations.
A video of the moment showed the duo shaking hands and exchanging pleasantries politely while surrounded by their entourage.
Recall that Ganduje did not personally hand over power to Governor Yusuf following the outcome of the 2023 governorship election. The then Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, conducted the handover ceremony on Ganduje’s behalf.
LEADERSHIP reports Governor Yusuf, who contested under the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), defeated Ganduje’s preferred successor, Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, in a tightly contested election later upheld by the Supreme Court. The two camps have since maintained frosty relations.
