The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf will on Tuesday inaugurate the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps at a special passing-out parade scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, announced this in a statement, describing the event as a significant milestone in the state government’s efforts to strengthen security at the community level.
“A total of 2,000 Neighbourhood Watch Corps will be posted to the 44 LGAs (with 130 females and 1,870 males). They will be equipped with arms and ammunition to fight back against major crimes in the state,” he said.
Dawakin-Tofa said the members of the corps have been trained and equipped to complement conventional security agencies in combating major crimes and maintaining public order in the state.
He added that Governor Yusuf will also commission operational logistics for the outfit, including 88 Hilux patrol vehicles and 440 motorcycles to enhance effective surveillance and rapid response.
