The 16th Emir of Kano, His Highness Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Friday, conferred traditional titles on a former Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Abubakar Balarabe Mahmood, SAN, and former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Muhammad Dikko Umar (Rtd), at his palace in Kano.
Mahmood was turbaned as Garkuwan Kano, while Air Marshal Umar (rtd) was honoured with the title of Sarkin Fulanin Ja’idnawan Kano.
The ceremony attracted prominent dignitaries from across the country, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo; the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Kano State deputy governor, Murtala Sule Garo.
Sharing photos from the event on their verified Facebook pages, Kwankwaso and Garo described the ceremony as “colourful and dignified,” noting that it was attended by a distinguished gathering of personalities from across the country.
“I had the honour of attending the turbaning ceremony of Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud, OON, SAN, as Garkuwan Kano earlier today,” Kwankwaso wrote .
The event came a day after Kwankwaso met Obasanjo in Kano a day earlier, where both leaders held talks, although details of their discussions were not disclosed.
