PICTORIAL: Maj-Gen Abubakar Takes Over As New Operation Hadin Kai Theatre Commander In Borno

In a significant leadership transition, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar has officially assumed command as the 15th Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), taking over from Major General Waidi Shaibu in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The formal handover ceremony, held on Tuesday at the Headquarters Theatre Command in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, was announced in a statement by Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Captain Reuben Kovangiya.

Major General Abubakar comes to the role with extensive operational, command, and instructional experience spanning more than a decade. His past appointments included Commander, Sector 3 OPHK and the Multi-National Joint Task Force in Monguno, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division and Commander, Sector 1 OPHK in Maiduguri, and GOC 3 Division/Commander Operation Safe Haven.

Prior to the latest appointment, he served as Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies at the National Defence College, Abuja.

In his valedictory speech, the outgone Theatre Commander, Major General Shaibu, expressed deep appreciation to the officers and troops for their unwavering cooperation and support during his tenure.

He reflected on his time in command as a period rich in experience, shaped by numerous operations across terrorists’ enclaves in the theatre.

 

He urged continued professionalism and commitment in the fight against terrorism, noting the sacrifices made by personnel in defence of the nation.

 

Major General Shaibu called on the troops to rally behind Major General Abubakar, whom he described as a seasoned and capable leader familiar with the operational environment.

 

The ceremony featured the signing of the official handing and taking-over notes, an address to troops by the incoming commander, and a group photograph to mark the occasion.
