Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has held high-level talks with United States Vice-President, JD Vance, and US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, on strengthening counterterrorism cooperation in West Africa.

The meeting, disclosed in a statement shared via X by Secure Nigeria, focused on deepening intelligence sharing, military training and joint efforts aimed at dismantling terrorist networks operating across Nigeria and the wider Sahel region.

According to the platform, the engagement reaffirmed the strategic security partnership between Nigeria and the United States amid renewed efforts to combat insurgency, banditry and extremist violence linked to groups such as Boko Haram and ISIS-affiliated factions.

“President Bola Tinubu appreciates President Donald Trump’s partnership and continued U.S. training and intelligence support as Nigerian forces intensify operations to dismantle terrorist networks, protect Nigerian Christians, and defend all vulnerable communities,” the statement said.

The post added that Nigeria remained a critical ally of the United States in confronting rising terrorism threats across West Africa.

“Africa’s largest democracy isn’t wavering. Nigeria stands as a frontline U.S. partner against ISIS, Boko Haram, and rising terror threats across the Sahel,” it added.

The discussions came amid increasing regional insecurity and growing international concern over the expansion of extremist activities in parts of the Sahel, where military juntas and fragile security structures have complicated counterterrorism operations.

Both countries, according to the statement, reiterated their commitment to sustaining joint security operations and strengthening regional stability.

“This fight is winnable, and together, the U.S. and Nigeria intend to finish it,” the platform stated.
