Voting has officially commenced across several polling units in Anambra State as residents trooped out to participate in the state’s governorship election holding on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed the development in updates shared on its official social media handles under the hashtag #AnambraDecides2025, noting that polling began as scheduled in multiple Local Government Areas (LGAs), including Njikoka, Aguata, Ekwusigo, and Ayamelum.
At Registration Area (RA) 10: Enugwu Ukwu II, Polling Units 003 and 004 in Njikoka LGA, voting commenced early with a calm and orderly turnout of voters. Reports indicated that accreditation and balloting were ongoing simultaneously, with INEC officials and security personnel fully on ground.
Similarly, in Ekwusigo LGA, at Polling Unit 006, located at Obi’s Palace, Umumunna Amakwa, Ozubulu Ward 01, voting activities were reported to have started promptly. Eligible voters were seen queuing peacefully to exercise their franchise under the supervision of officials of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and other security agencies deployed to maintain order.
In Aguata LGA, particularly at PU 001, RA Achina 2, election materials arrived on time and polls opened as scheduled. INEC officials confirmed that the process was proceeding smoothly, with voters casting their ballots in an atmosphere devoid of tension.
Also, in Ayamelum LGA, polling units 009, 010, 011, and 012 under RA 08, Omor III, recorded early turnout, especially among senior citizens who were observed undergoing accreditation.
INEC officials across these areas affirmed their readiness to ensure that both accreditation and voting proceed seamlessly, in line with the Commission’s operational guidelines.
As of press time, no incidents of disruption or violence had been reported, while the electoral umpire reiterated its commitment to delivering a credible, transparent, and peaceful election across all polling units in Anambra State.
