Pioneering Editors Celebrate 20 Years Of LEADERSHIP’s Impact

Two decades ago, the late Sam Nda-Isaiah, founding chairman of LEADERSHIP Newspapers, brought together a group of visionary writers, editors, and optimists who shared his belief in a bold journalistic mission. These pioneers set out not just to inform but to inspire, challenge, and uphold the highest standards of journalism. In this edition, we honour those founding voices - editors whose words have proven timely and timeless.

LEADERSHIP Has Remained Resilient

Lara Olugbemi, former Editor, LEADERSHIP Weekend; Director, Divisional Services and Director, Standards

Wow… twenty years already.

I joined The LEADERSHIP Newspapers Group in 2006 and worked there until 2015 (less the year I took off to experiment elsewhere).

From then until now, LEADERSHIP has remained a resilient force to be reckoned with, its impact reaching beyond our shores also. As a pioneer in many regards, LEADERSHIP remains relevant by upholding the virtues of excellence, truth, and integrity, as well as by staying abreast of and imbibing the best international journalistic practices. It has never been afraid to change in order to grow when it has had to.

But then, that’s how the newspaper stable’s founder was – never afraid to make changes when they were necessary. The visionary, fearless, nothing-is-impossible stance of the late Sam Nda-Isaiah keeps the organisation thriving despite all the challenges he and the company encountered through the years. And boy, have there been some challenges! But this ship continues to sail, proving that nothing can sink it.

And, of course, the newspaper’s rise is also due to the quality of journalists and other professionals who have worked at LEADERSHIP over the years. LEADERSHIP has always been a hub where seasoned industry professionals are found and where budding journalists can learn from them and grow. If anything stands LEADERSHIP out, it’s that those who have worked there and are still there remain a family committed to the company’s and each other’s growth.

Many who passed through this institution are now serving or have previously served in places of great prestige and responsibility at the level of governance and otherwise, within and outside the country. There are very few who pass through LEADERSHIP who do not go on to excel as journalists or in whatever other field of endeavour they embrace.

LEADERSHIP continues to blaze the trail in its fight for good governance, holding those in leadership to account, breaking the news ahead of others and delivering reportage that is balanced and reliable. Its podcast, LeVogue magazine and National Economy are just some reasons it stands as a pacesetter and example.

It has been twenty great years of excellent, ethical journalism and innovation, and I am blessed and thankful to God that I can say that I have been a part of its still unfolding story. I am sure that this is one story that will end well.

Congratulations to LEADERSHIP, its management, and all its staff, past and present. Keep the LEADERSHIP Newspapers Group’s banner flying high for God and for country!
