The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) said it has uncovered plans by some unscrupulous elements to hijack planned August 1-15 hunger protest to cause anarchy by replicating the Kenyan violence and vowed to resist the plot.

The Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba disclosed this on Thursday at the bi-weekly update on military operations across the country.

General Buba noted that citizens have right to protest but added that mobilising to cause anarchy will not be accepted by the Armed Forces adding that the military will intervene when called upon.

He said intelligence revealed that some elements were planning to hijack the protest to cause anarchy while vowing that the military will not sit back and allow such to befall the nation.

The Defence Headquarters explained that the aim of the proposed nationwide protest was to replicate what happened in Kenya recently in the country.

He said, “The aim of the protest is to show you what is happening in Kenya. And I would add that, what is happening in Kenya in terms of the protest – one, is violence. Two, it remains unresolved as we speak now

“So, did you see from that? And based on what has been gathered, there are plans by some unscrupulous elements to hijack this protest and make sure that it turns violent. When it turns violent, I want to tell you what we have seen, as it would likely happen. Indeed, we need to count our blessings.”
