Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Plateau State chapter Dr Bapigaan William Audu has disclosed that the state is one of the three states with the highest rate of open defecation in Nigeria.
He made the disclosure while speaking to LEADERSHIP in Jos the Plateau State capital. Audu said that is why typhoid fever is very rampant in the state. He said because of the practice of open defecation which in turn contaminates the sources of drinking water and foods, typhoid is common in the state.
He also lamented that the state government is owing doctors three months’ salary adding that they have been enjoying fraction of the consolidation medical salary structure in the state.
“Doctors in government owned hospitals have been taking home fraction of their salary since 2015. We have called on the government to see the urgency in addressing these challenges especially in the face of worsening brain drain that is facing us as a nation.
