A prominent philanthropist and community leader, Chief Kefas Wungak Ropshik, has formally signaled his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Plateau State under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Ropshik, popularly known as “Kefiano,” made his intention known while addressing a large gathering of supporters in his local government area. Although he noted that the event was not his official declaration, the overwhelming turnout, according to him, reflects growing grassroots support across the state.

“I am even surprised at the mammoth turnout, despite the fact that this is not an official declaration yet,” he said. “I am very sure that my people and the good people of Plateau State want me, and I am fully prepared to make them proud.”

Widely regarded as one of the most compassionate figures in Plateau, Ropshik has built a reputation for sustained humanitarian efforts.

Over the years, he has invested heavily in youth empowerment initiatives, educational support programmes and welfare schemes for widows and vulnerable groups.

His philanthropy extends further, as he is known to have adopted and raised several children, offering them opportunities for a better future.

Political observers say his consistent engagement with grassroots communities, coupled with his humility and accessibility, has earned him widespread admiration across different demographics in the state.

Supporters argue that his deep understanding of local challenges positions him as a credible candidate capable of addressing issues such as unemployment, insecurity, and infrastructural deficits.

Many of his loyalists believe that Ropshik’s leadership style anchored on service, empathy, and inclusiveness sets him apart in the race ahead of 2027. They point to his proven track record in community development and conflict mediation as evidence of his readiness to lead a diverse and complex state like Plateau.

“Plateau needs a leader who understands the pains of the people and is willing to act,” a supporter at the gathering said. “Chief Ropshik has shown over the years that he is not just a politician, but a servant-leader.”

Analysts also note that his emphasis on unity and social cohesion could play a significant role in fostering peace and stability in a state often challenged by communal tensions. His vision, they say, aligns with the aspirations of many residents seeking sustainable development, improved living standards, and inclusive governance.
