A former student of Plateau State University (PLASU), who recently completed his PhD studies in Northumbria University, Newcastle, United Kingdom, Dr. Moses Dang, has donated assorted books on Management Courses to the State University.

Dr. Dang said he approached his colleagues n the United Kingdom for the book donations in order to support Plateau State University back home because he knew the demands for such books back home and the impact they would have in the educational development of the students.

Dang also took to his Facebook page on Thursday to explain how he came about the books he donated to his alma mater in Nigeria.

He wrote: “These second consignment of assorted management textbooks donated by colleagues from Northumbria University UK, were successfully handed over to the Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University, Bokkos, Prof. Matur today. I am highly honoured that I have an opportunity to continue contributing in my small measure to the development of PLASU. Long may this opportunity continue.”

Meanwhile, according to a statement issued in Jos, the State capital, the Public Relations Officer of PLASU, John K. Agams, said the books, which were collected and put together since 2017, could not be transported to Nigeria due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the attendant travel ban imposed at the time.

Handing over the books to PLASU Vice Chancellor in the presence of Dr Dang, the Dean of Faculty of Management Sciences, Dr. Keziah Yiltohom, appreciated Dr. Dang for the donations of the books, which were made up of current book titles used in developed climes, which will save the University a lot of money if they were to be bought.

Speaking while receiving the books, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Matur Malau Bernard, described the gesture as remarkable, commendable and a compassionate demonstration of the desire to help in the growth of the University.

He conveyed the gratitude of the University Governing Council and the Management to Dr. Moses Dang, for the donations, saying an appreciation letter will be sent to the donors and a commendation letter to Dr. Dang for making such a huge sacrifice rather than sell them for personal monetary gains in the face of the current economic crunch.

While restating the commitment of the University to put the books to the best use, the VC further praised Dr. Dang for choosing to return home and contribute his quota to the growth of the University even after acquiring three degrees from Britain, and yet not yeilding to the ‘Japa’ syndrome as some people would have done.
