The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Plateau State University, Bokkos chapter, ASUU-PLASU, has declared a total and indefinite strike over the failure of the university administration to resolve its six-point demands.

The union announced the industrial action on Wednesday following a Congress meeting held after the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the university management on August 11.

In a statement signed by the chapter’s chairperson, Vincent  Choji, and Secretary, Lomka Kopdiya, and made available to reporters on Wednesday, the union said none of its demands had been satisfactorily addressed.

Among the demands are the immediate commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme, full implementation of the 2025 Federal Government/ASUU agreement and payment of outstanding arrears dating back to January 1, 2026.

The union is also demanding the provision of safe and secure staff quarters, construction of trenches around the university’s perimeter fence and an end to what it described as the intimidation of union leaders.

It further demanded the payment of 22 months’ outstanding arrears of the 25/35 per cent wage award.

The statement quoted the union as saying, “Congress is convinced that the substance of our demands on all six items has not been satisfactorily addressed.”

According to ASUU-PLASU, the decision to embark on the strike followed approval from the union’s National Executive Council.

The chapter consequently directed all its members to suspend academic activities with immediate effect and remain on strike until further notice.
