Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, in line with the global digital trends, has unbundled the Department of Mass Communication into a full Faculty of Communication and Media Studies.

The vice chancellor, Prof. Shedrack Best, made the disclosure during the pre-convocation briefing at the vice chancellor’s boardroom.

According to him, PLASU has established a radio station 103.3 FM, adding that the station is expected to be the heartbeat of Bokkos, not just the PLASU campus community, where their students will no longer learn theory in isolation but command the airwaves.

In his words, “On the 14th of February 2026, the world will witness our ‘Harvest of Scholars.’ This combined convocation is the culmination of years of resilience.

“We have grown into a diverse community of over Thirteen Thousand students from every corner of Nigeria. The journey from inception to this point has seen its share of storms, but today, Plateau State University stands unshakable.

“As the Visitor, Governor Mutfwang, often reminds us, the future is not something we wait for, the future is here and now. We have shed the old image and embraced the new. We are PLASU, and our horizon is limited.”

Prof Best also disclosed that PLASU will graduate a total of 2, 485 students at its 8th and 9th combined convocation ceremony stressing that out of the number, 92 of the students would graduate with first-class honours.

Prof Best explained that having seen first-hand the physical and academic leap they have taken, he believe that one can testify that the PLASU of today is a vastly different entity from the one he inherited two years ago.

“For many years, this university stood as a quiet promise of academic hope, today, I am proud to say that promise has matured into a global brand,” he added,

He further stressed, “Our transformation began with what we call the ‘New Signature.’ As you may have noticed at our gates, we have shed our old skin. Our re-established signage is more than a mere welcome, it is a statement of intent, an indication of a university embracing global branding and redefining academic prowess.”

According to Best, this rebirth found its greatest ally in the “Time Is Now” philosophy of the governor of Plateau State and Visitor to the University, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang.

The VC further said, upon his assumption of office, the governor introduced a profound sense of urgency while he recognized that to turn PLASU into a world-class citadel, there was the urgent need to act decisively.

“His unwavering support has been the wind beneath our wings, allowing us to clear historical backlogs, settle administrative hurdles, and dream significantly bigger.

“Nowhere is this growth more evident than in our academic expansion. We have dared to tread where few have ventured. We are celebrating the historic introduction of the College of Medicine and Surgery and the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.”

He maintained that, these are life-saving institutions designed to bridge the healthcare gap not only in Plateau State but across the Nigerian federation.

Prof Best also added that parallel to their medical revolution is the radical innovation within the Faculty of Agriculture stressing that they are no longer confined to the classroom as they are pioneering sustainable agribusiness.

“From our thriving poultry farm now a key supplier of eggs to the university community to our advanced pedigree cow breeding and Alfalfa farm projects, we are transforming Bokkos into an agricultural powerhouse.”

The vice chancellor also stated that they are not just graduating students; they are building “Agripreneurs.”

“In all these, quality remains our watchword. Recently, 16 of our courses played host to the National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation teams. We are ensuring that every degree from the PLASU ‘kitty’ carries the weight of international standards,” he said.
