A good governance and accountability group, Transparency Watch has called on Nigerian politicians to shun selective intervention and play politics of inclusion.

Transparency Watch Director of Public Affairs, Cliff Richards, made the call in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP on Wednesday in Owerri, Imo State .

Richards said “after taking a dispassionate look at the activities of privileged Nigerians, particularly high profile politicians, we are constrained to declare, without fear of contradiction, that an overwhelming majority of them are selfish, and do not care about the welfare of the less privileged.

The group while commending Senator Abdul’aziz Abubabar Yari for empowering the youths in his state , Zamfara and many parts  of the country through self-reliance schemes, equally  charged   others to  emulate his good work.

According to the group, Yari is using his privileged position to uplift the less privileged not only in his home state of Zamfara, but also across the larger spectrum of the country.

“Senator Yari is methodically addressing youth unemployment in Zamfara State and beyond. Only recently, he successfully sponsored dozens of youths from the six local government areas of his senatorial district for enlistment into the Nigerian Army. The beneficiary of these life-changing gestures, from what we know, cannot forget Senator Yari in a hurry.

“As a philanthropist of note, we know it for a fact that Senator Yari is deploying his resources to support his constituents and the broader population of Zamfara state. He does this across party and religious lines in line with his philanthropic philosophy.

The group said that Yari’s interventions had changed the lives of those who have benefited from them from his scheme, adding  that he stood out among the large crowd of politicians who have occupied several positions but couldn’t impact on the lives of their constituents .

“We commend Senator Yari for his people-centred politics and urge other privileged Nigerians, especially politicians, to follow the good example of the senator. It is certainly more rewarding to deploy wealth for the good of the people than to engage in the primitive accumulation of same”, the Transparency Watch said.
