Katsina State Police Command has arrested a total of 1,627 suspects for various offences in 2023.

The arrests were made in connection with the 938 major cases reported to the command and about 855 of the cases were charged to court for prosecution.

The state commissioner of police, Aliyu Abubakar Musa, revealed this in the command’s end-of-the-year press conference organised at the command’s headquarters in Katsina.

He said in the course of the command’s anti-crime campaign, “258 suspected armed robbers, 64 suspected kidnappers, 176 murder suspects, 369 suspected rapists/sodomites were arrested, and a total number of 495 suspects were arrested for various other offences.

“The command succeeded in rescuing 171 kidnapped victims, 67 human trafficking victims, neutralised 17 suspected kidnappers, and recovered the following exhibits; 12 AK 47 rifles, over 1,500 live rounds of ammunition, 700 plus suspected rustled animals, 12 suspected stolen motor vehicles and motorcycles, and 17 suspected stolen phones.”

The commissioner added that about 568 sachets of D5 tablets, 23 packets of Exzole tablets, 411 packets of Rebozel tablets, and five packs of Diezole tablets including a large number of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were seized within the year under review.
