A 19-year-old boy and a woman have been arrested by a team of operatives of the Anambra State Police Command in connection with the abduction of two siblings.
LEADERSHIP gathered that two children, aged 3 and 5 years, from the same parents, were allegedly abducted by 19-year-old Onyedika Daniel, who later handed them over to his accomplice, identified as Nkechi Onuwa.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Onyedika stole the two children when they were being taken to their mother’s shop by their older siblings along Nwafor Junction, Eziora, Ozubulu in Ekwsigo local government area on Thursday.
SP Ikenga said after Onyedika took the two children away, their older sibling ran to their mother and informed her that someone had taken away the children away from her.
The mother of the children according to the police spokesperson, swiftly alerted the police at Ozubulu Divisional Police Headquarters, following which a team of the security operatives was deployed to rescue the children and arrest the kidnapper.
When Onyedika was tracked, he took the police personnel to Oba in Idemili-South local government where he had handed over the children to Onuwa from whom the operatives recovered the two victims.
Ikenga said that the two rescued children had been handed over to their mother.
The PPRO added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ikioye Orutugu had ordered an expanded investigation for the arrest of those involved in the children’s abduction to face the full weight of the law.
He emphasised that the successful rescue of the children showcased the command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable members of the society and tackling crimes against children.
