Three suspects have been arrested for the murder of a staff member of Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School, Ugbamaka, in Olamaboro local government area of Kogi State.

The Kogi State Police Command said the arrests followed the conclusion of an investigation into the death of Mariam Usman, who reportedly died from injuries due to a series of assaults on her.

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, said the case was reported on June 25, 2026, prompting detectives from the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lokoja, to commence a detailed investigation.

The police said findings revealed that on June 17, Abdullahi Isiaka allegedly assaulted the deceased at her residence over disciplinary measures she took against his 11-year-old son while carrying out her duties at the school.

Investigators further alleged that later the same day, the deceased was attacked again by Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo while on her way to the mosque for prayers.

The command added that on June 18, Ojonojima Mary, said to be the younger sister of Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo, allegedly went to the school and assaulted the victim at her workplace.

The victim was initially treated at Grace Clinic, Ugbamaka, before she was referred to Eleojo Clinic in Okpo for further medical attention. She, however, died on June 25 from injuries allegedly sustained during the attacks.

Police said investigations established a prima facie case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide against the three suspects—Ojonojima Mary, Ramatu Isiaka Eleojo and Abdullahi Isiaka.

“The investigation has been concluded, and the suspects will be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, commended the detectives for their professionalism and diligence in handling the case, assuring residents that the command remains committed to ensuring justice and tackling violent crimes across the state.

He also urged members of the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands and instead seek lawful means of resolving disputes, while encouraging residents to continue providing the police with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and law enforcement.
