The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspected trans-border criminals in connection with the theft and smuggling of a vehicle stolen during a test drive at a car dealership in the state.
According to a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects, including the ringleader identified as Shamsu Yusuf a.k.a. “Chitta,” were apprehended following a coordinated tactical operation by operatives of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS).
The incident occurred on July 7 when a car dealer, Abdulqadir Abdurrahman of Gadan Kaya Quarters, Kano, reported that Chitta had approached Dangari Motors, pretending to be a prospective buyer and snatched a gold-colored 2013 Toyota Corolla during a test drive.
“Following a coordinated tactical operation, operatives from the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS) led by CSP Rabiu Gidado arrested the principal suspect and his two accomplices on 17th July 2025.
“The accomplices, Bashir Ladan, a 40-year-old male from Shagari Quarters, Katsina, and Suleiman Muntari, a 41-year-old male from Tudun Matawalle, Katsina State, were arrested in Katsina State. The stolen motor vehicle, which had been sold in the Niger Republic, was recovered,” the statement partly reads.
It further revealed that the principal suspect confessed to several similar crimes, including the recent theft of a Mercedes Benz GLK.
Commending the officers for their professionalism, Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, called on car dealers to remain vigilant and assured the public of the Command’s commitment to safety and security.
