The Kano State Police Command has arrested six suspects for their allegedly involvement in a series of mobile phone theft across Kano Metropolis.

The arrests, made between January 11 and 15, 2025, also led to the recovery of two operational tricycles and 15 stolen mobile phones.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, in a statement said the operation was carried out by officers from the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) of the Criminal Investigation Department.

Acting on credible intelligence, he said the squad raided several criminal hideouts and black spots within the metropolis.

The suspects are identified as Bashir Isah, Isyaku Bala, Mudansir Ayuba, Muzambil Abdullahi, Ibrahim Mohammed, and Hassan Sagir and they have all confessed to their part in the crime.

“All the suspects of various addresses within Kano Metropolis confessed to the crime and further stated that they specialised in disguising as tricycle riders and stealing of passengers mobile phones,” the statement said.

Items recovered from the suspects include two tricycles with registration numbers KBT-850WZ and DAL-113WZ, alongside 15 mobile phones believed to have been stolen.

Commending the officers involved in the operations, Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Garba, praised their professionalism and the public’s cooperation, which he said played a crucial role in the success of the operations.

He urged victims who may recognise their belongings to visit the Public Relations Office at the Kano State Police Command or call 07063407910.

The CP reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling all forms of criminality in the state, including mobile phone theft, armed robbery, and street violence.
