The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a 31-year-old Ex-convict and serial vandal, Kabiru Bala, over alleged vandalism and theft in Darazo local government area of the state.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil who revealed this in a statement on Tuesday, explained that one Dr. Auwal Abdullahi from Gombe State, filed a complaint against the arrested suspect.
Abdullahi said the Command’s prompt response and technology-driven investigative techniques played crucial roles in arresting the suspect.
Wakil narrated that the victim reported that he parked his Peugeot 307 vehicle with registration number ABJ-982 NC, at Al-Umma Village Lodge, on July 20, 2025, where he subsequently booked a room to pass the night.
He explained that he discovered that the vehicle’s windows had been forcibly broken and several possessions had been stolen when he got to the car the following morning.
Abdullahi listed items stolen from his car to include N5million cash, one touchscreen laptop; and one Tecno Smart 17 model phone.
“Upon receipt of the report, the Bauchi State Police Command launched an immediate investigation, prompting the suspect’s apprehension.
“During the course of interrogation, the suspect admitted to the allegations and provided comprehensive details regarding his criminal activities, which included vandalisation of armoured cables in various locations such as Alkaleri, Ningi, Darazo (Kari and Lanzai), and Bauchi metropolis,” PPRO said.
According to the police, the suspect (Kabiru) said he sold the stolen armoured cables according to their weight at N10,000 per kilogram.
“The most recent transaction involved six kilograms, yielding Sixty Thousand Naira to a buyer,” the PPRO said.
According to the police, the suspect further confessed to be engaged in criminal activities for about seven years and had been apprehended on eight separate occasions, during which he served corresponding jail terms.
“Moreover, he confessed to having vandalised an unquantified quantity of armoured cables in the locations above, as well as accomplices and receivers involved in his activities,” Wakil noted.
Police further said some stolen items including one touchscreen laptop and one Tecno Smart 17 model phone were found on the suspect.
Wakil confirmed that investigation was ongoing while efforts were being intensified to identify and apprehend the remaining accomplices and receivers.
The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Police Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the suspect be formally charged to court upon completion of investigation.
