Police Arrest Father In Ondo For Burning Daughter’s Private Part

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man, Amos Paul, for allegedly burning the private part of his 10-year-old daughter with a hot pressing iron as punishment for bedwetting.

The suspect, a resident of Unaun, Upenme in Owo local government area of Ondo State, was arrested following a report made to the police.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abayomi Jimoh, who confirmed the incident, said the victim sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, where she is currently receiving treatment.

Jimoh said detectives from the ‘A’ Division, Owo, responded promptly to the report, visited the scene and arrested the suspect.

According to him, the case has been transferred to the Gender Unit of the Command for further investigation and necessary action in line with established procedures.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, condemned the alleged act, describing it as cruel, inhumane and completely unacceptable.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons from abuse, violence and exploitation, stressing that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.

‎“This alleged act is cruel, inhumane and completely unacceptable. The Ondo State Police Command remains committed to protecting children and ensuring that anyone found culpable is brought to justice,” the commissioner said.

‎Ohagwu urged members of the public to promptly report cases of child abuse, domestic violence and related offences to the nearest police station, assuring that the Command would ensure justice for victims.

‎The police said investigations are ongoing, while the suspect remains in custody pending the outcome of the probe.
