Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old woman, Hajiya Jamila Nura, of Kofar Arewa Quarters, Daura LGA, for unlawful possession of government-donated food supplies for vulnerable groups.

The police spokesman,  DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, in a statement, said operatives of the Anti-Kauraye Unit intercepted eight bags of “Super Cereal Maizoya” – a fortified corn blend popularly called Yar Kwamuso, during an intelligence-led operation on August 7, 2025.

The cereal, enriched with a special sugar formula, was supplied by the government in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to support malnourished children, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and vulnerable families in conflict-affected Borno State.

During questioning, Jamila admitted receiving the consignment from one Alhaji Kamaluddeen of Maiduguri and reselling it to a buyer in Jibia LGA, Katsina.

DSP Aliyu condemned the diversion, stressing that such acts undermine efforts to fight malnutrition and protect public health.

“These practices sabotage government and humanitarian interventions designed to support vulnerable groups, especially children. We call on the public to desist from trading in relief items meant for the needy,” he said.

The Command added that investigations are ongoing to identify other culprits and ensure justice.
